Voters in three communities get their chance on Tuesday, March 20, to tell elected officials they want to keep the power to approve property tax increases and new fees.

Home Rule referenda are on the ballot in Rockford, Merrionnette Park and Homewood.

A “no” vote will mean that elected officials will have to ask voters directly for permission if they want to increase property taxes or come up with new fees. A “yes” vote will allow elected officials to make that decision without going directly to voters.

Considering Illinois dubious distinction as a high property tax state, a “no” vote will help residents of these communities best control taxes.

Make sure you vote “no” on Tuesday.
