Illinois policymakers have discussed the possibility of implementing a 10 percent tax on advertising and related services.

This policy, were it ever to become law, would add a hefty increase to the cost of advertising, which in turn could impact the cost of everything from dining out to selling a house. After all, a 10 percent increase tacked onto ad rates via a sales tax would likely be passed onto the consumer.

Luckily, there’s a growing coalition of those who are trying to make sure this bad policy never goes before lawmakers for consideration. No Ad Tax Illinois has put together a website that looks at the impacts this policy could have for those who live in the state. As the site states:

As small businesses close, communities will suffer. Local business owners will lose their investments, workers will lose their jobs and communities will lose vital sources of economic activity.
