The headline says it all: “After tax bills hit Chicago mailboxes, some taxpayers hit roof.”

The article in the Chicago Sun-Times notes that frustrated homeowners are trying to get answers as to what they can do about their tax bills. The most recent round of tax bills began arriving last week, and Chicago some Chicago residents are fuming over an average increase of as much as 12 percent.

Of course, that’s an average, and some property owners have been hit harder.

The increases are the result of a triennial reassessment and a property tax levy increase that is to primarily fund police and fire pensions.
